01:49 PM PST: An important update for our email users

Some of our users have not been able to access their mail since 10:27 PM PST on Monday night, due to a hardware problem in one of our mail data centers. The issue has been harder to fix than we originally expected.

We have dozens of people working around the clock to bring it to a resolution. We’ll post updates on our @YahooMail Twitter handle.

09:45 AM PST

(12/12/13) We wanted to give you another quick update as we continue to work on Yahoo Mail.

Our mail engineers restored POP mail access last night and are still working to restore IMAP. In the meantime, the best way to access your email on mobile is through a Yahoo Mail app for iOS or Android, which you can download here:

and on desktop, log into Yahoo Mail through your browser.

The affected servers have been up and running for over six hours and we have already delivered over 30% of messages sent during the outage. We expect all emails to be delivered by this afternoon.

Some users may still have trouble accessing their accounts but we are working continually on this and will post again later in the day with the latest updates.

(12/16/2013) The engineering team has been working over the weekend and making steady progress on restoring access to messages for affected users. This includes folders as well as inbox state (like whether you have read a message or starred it).

As part of the restoration process, some timestamps may not appear correctly on some of your messages.

Thank you again for your continued patience through this process and we will share an update again tomorrow.

(12/17/13) We continue to work on recovering email messages, folders, and inboxes for users who are still not seeing some messages in their inbox. In the last 24 hours, we have seen an accelerated rate of message recovery for affected users.

We believe that we have restored access for all affected users, but if you are still having trouble accessing your account for any reason, please contact Customer Care at 1-800-318-0612.
